Elevator Pitch
In the shadows of a city of magic and machines, your community entrusted you with a dangerous hope. Now you walk the line between rebellion and ruin.
Neo Babylon, a colossal metropolis where ancient arcane secrets and cutting-edge cybertech coexist, offers everything—at a cost. Most residents lose themselves in debt, distraction, and despair. But you were chosen to represent your people. You are an Envoy.
Driven by purpose, you navigate political minefields, corrupt institutions, and the allure of power. You confront demons, both literal and systemic, as whispers of revolution echo through flooded alleys and neon towers. Your tools: magic, tech, conviction—and each other.
Every mission threatens to pull you deeper into the very systems you resist. Every choice reshapes the future of your community. Will you betray your values for survival? Be broken trying to uphold them? Or maybe, with a little help from your friends, actually do some good?
Subversion is a cyberpunk-fantasy tabletop RPG set in a magically stratified and technologically accelerated world. Powered by narrative-forward mechanics and thematic tension, Subversion emphasizes character values, community resilience, and political resistance. Designed by Fragging Unicorns Games, it invites players to fight for a better world—or watch it slip away.
Subversion is a cyberpunk-fantasy tabletop RPG about community, resistance, and the fight for a better future. You play as an Envoy—an individual chosen by their neighborhood to solve problems, defend against threats, and represent their people in a city that sees them as disposable. Welcome to Neo Babylon, a sprawling metropolis built on the ruins of ancient magic and powered by revolutionary cybertech. It’s a place where arcane elites and ruthless corporations struggle for dominance, while most citizens drown in debt, corruption, and distraction.
As an Envoy, your job is to push back. You’ll forge alliances, uncover conspiracies, and walk the line between hope and compromise. One day you're sabotaging a demonic corporate ritual, the next you're brokering peace between rival factions in a flooded undercity district. Will your choices uplift your community—or fracture it? In Subversion, every decision is political, every action personal, and every mission a test of your character’s values.
Subversion stands at the intersection of fantasy and sci-fi, roleplay and resistance. Its innovative mechanics prioritize character ideals and collaborative world-building over traditional power fantasy. With a fully developed setting and robust support for themes like mutual aid, direct action, cultural identity, and social struggle, Subversion resonates with players seeking stories grounded in both personal stakes and systemic critique.
As the tabletop RPG industry embraces narrative-forward systems and socially conscious design, Subversion is uniquely positioned to appeal to fans of story-rich games, politically charged settings, and collaborative roleplay experiences. It offers something few games do: a chance to not only fight the system, but build something better in its place.
System: roll and keep d6 dice system, progress tracks, value-driven plots and XP
Session Length: 3–4 hours per episode, really shining in longer campaigns
Tone: Hopeful, cooperative, morally nuanced, diverse
Why It Matters: The game fills a unique niche—mythic rebellion against corporate authoritarianism, centered on community-building, not violence. Subversion brings emotional depth and player-driven narrative into the indie TTRPG space.
Fragging Unicorns Games is a game design studio dedicated to creating bold, story-driven tabletop experiences that challenge the status quo and celebrate community, resistance, and identity. Founded by lifelong gamers, writers, and activists, we believe that roleplaying games can be a vehicle for both entertainment and transformation—sparking conversations, building empathy, and empowering players to imagine better futures.
Since our formation in 2019, we’ve focused on developing rich, immersive worlds that reflect real-world struggles through speculative lenses. Our flagship title, Subversion, is a cyberpunk-fantasy RPG that merges innovative mechanics with deep worldbuilding to explore themes of mutual aid, systemic resistance, and the power of values in shaping narrative.
As an indie publisher, Fragging Unicorns Games prides itself on transparency, inclusivity, and community engagement. From our successful Kickstarter campaigns to our partnerships with diverse creators and fans around the world, we’re committed to amplifying marginalized voices and delivering games that matter.
Building on the momentum of Subversion, we’re setting our sights on expanding the boundaries of what tabletop games can be—whether through digital integrations, community-driven content, or collaborations that uplift radical imagination. Our mission is simple: make games that inspire hope, ignite change, and frag the system.
